Today I had my feet checked by a foot healthcare specialist, Kay, and prepared for the on-coming storm.
It really was a very pleasant experience, and vastly better than the nuclear kidney thing.
She warned me about the risks of wearing Hospital tights, if toenails are too well trimmed.
Isn’t it amazing what we don’t know.
Apparently if toe nails are manicured too intensely and cut too short, toes can get squashed together, and that can result in painful in-growing toenails 😖.
As she carefully looked after my toes, we talked about Myeloma, and how it was diagnosed.
I explained that my Locum GP had become concerned that I was a bit anaemic, following an annual blood test …
At the time I thought she was totally neurotic 😨.
Neurotic because she produced an urgent, scary, referral for me to the local Hospital’s Colorectal unit, for tests.
Well, as it turned out, everything was fine there.
But then my (potentially totally neurotic) Locum GP immediately produced another scary urgent referral to the local haematology unit.
And it was here that blood tests, and a (quite ouchy) biopsy indicated that I had Myeloma 🙁
SO … this dear wonderful doctor wasn’t neurotic at all … but because of her total diligence produced a potentially life enhancing early diagnosis.
This conversation with Kay, reminded me that I need to find the Locum Doctor to thank her for her skill, and care.
I’m also very grateful to Kay for helping me think again about diagnosis time, and my need to thank a wonderful doctor.
I totally love the way that life works. 😊
