DAY 41

Sunny blue sky day😊 with a pleasant slow start morning.

After lunch we set off for the Friary, and a walk in the sunshine. Our first since the transplant!

I honestly feel really excited at the thought of walking in fresh air under blue sky.

The King’s College Hospital physiotherapist told me on Thursday to use two crutches until I’m a bit stronger. So it’s two crutches.

We have coffee, and sausage rolls with us.

We arrive, and I’m eager to get out of the car, and get walking.

We do, and Mandy goes in front of me.

I walk happily with my crutches, and feel as though I could keep walking for a long time.

The physio warned me about fatigue and exhaustion … and not to walk too far – but experiment with distance, carefully.

After 350 steps I reach a bench at the side of the Friary lake … and sit happily thrilled that my body is working well.

The view from my bench

It’s hard to describe the enormous relief that I feel, because I can walk like this. It’s a really big emotional thing, that leaves me with slightly damp eyes.

After a while, some swans come to check me out …

… and I’m glad to see them.

Eventually we head back to the car, and I’ve done 710 steps 👏👏👏

After a sausage roll and coffee, we head home … with a very big smile on my face.

On your way to a full recovery. Nothing like fresh air, sunshine, blue sky and sausage rolls to help.
